EU Supports OPCW In Efforts To Uphold Chemical Weapons Ban - Press Service

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th November, 2018) EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini confirmed EU support for the efforts the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) makes to uphold the global ban on chemical weapons, the OPCW said on Thursday.

OPCW Director General Fernando Arias and Mogherini met in Brussels to discuss the issues related to the threats from chemical weapons use ahead of the upcoming session of the OPCW Conference of the States Parties (CSP).

"Ms Mogherini stressed the EU's appreciation of OPCW's efforts to uphold the global ban against chemical weapons, and the EU's support for the goals of the Convention and its substantive financial contributions to the Organization's activities," the OPCW press service said.

According to the EU press service, Mogherini also reiterated EU commitment to provide assistance to the OPCW "in identifying perpetrators, organizers, sponsors and those otherwise involved in using chemical weapons."

The 23rd session of the CSP, the principal organ of the OPCW consisting of the representatives from each of the member states, will be held from 19-30 November in the Hague.
