Four in 10 Millennials to Dodge Conscription in UK in Event of World War - Poll

Over 40 percent of Brits in their 20s and early 30s would fight the draft if a world war broke out, a survey has showed.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th November, 2018) Over 40 percent of Brits in their 20s and early 30s would fight the draft if a world war broke out, a survey has showed.

The YouGov poll out Thursday found that only 23 percent of the so-called Millennials would join the army in the event of a Third World War, with women being the likeliest draft dodgers.

The survey was conducted as the world prepares to mark 100 years since the end of World War I. As it dragged on, the UK government introduced conscription for abled men aged 18 to 40.

Today's Brits in this age bracket are likely to fight the draft, with 38 percent saying they would dodge it and 23 percent saying they would put themselves forward.

Among the Generation X, currently between 39-53 years old, 18 percent said they would try to avoid being enlisted in the military and 23 percent said they were ready to serve.

Over 80 percent of so-called Baby Boomers, aged 54 onward, said they had good reasons to believe the armed forces would not try to conscript them due to old age or disability.

The research also found that the number of Brits who feel another world war is likely in the next forty years dropped from 57 percent in 2016 to 47 percent.
