Kremlin Says Following Situation Around Ingushetia-Chechnya Border

The Kremlin is monitoring the situation on the border between Ingushetia and Chechnya, waiting for the decision of the Russian Constitutional Court, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th November, 2018) The Kremlin is monitoring the situation on the border between Ingushetia and Chechnya, waiting for the decision of the Russian Constitutional Court, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"We are monitoring, we will be waiting for the Constitutional Court decision... No, this is a working situation, it is resolved in court, this is an absolutely normal situation, but controversial," Peskov said when asked whether the Kremlin was following the story.

The request of Ingushetia head Yunus-Bek Yevkurov to check the agreement on establishing the border between Chechnya and Ingushetia for compliance with the constitution was received by Russia's Constitutional Court, the court press service told Sputnik Thursday. In late October, the Ingushetia Constitutional Court declared the law, which approved the agreement on the border with Chechnya, to be unconstitutional.

On September 26, Yevkurov and the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, signed an agreement on defining the border between their regions, which stipulated an equal swap of territories. The parliaments of Chechnya and Ingushetia approved the border agreement. The Constitutional Court of Ingushetia stated that the agreement can only be approved only in a referendum. Protests began in Ingushetia.
