WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th November, 2018) US Congress must take action right away to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation against President Donald Trump's blatant attempt to undermine it by firing Attorney General Jeff sessions, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement.
Earlier, Trump in a Twitter message named Sessions' chief of staff, Matthew Whitaker, as the Acting US Attorney General and said a permanent replacement will be nominated at a later date. Sessions in a letter to Trump said he was resigning at the president's request.
"It is impossible to read Attorney General Sessions' firing as anything other than another blatant attempt by @realDonaldTrump to undermine & end Special Counsel Mueller's investigation," Pelsoi said in a twitter message on Wednesday. "Congress must take immediate action to protect the rule of law and integrity of the investigation."
