WASHINGTION (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th November, 2018) US President Donald Trump in a press briefing on Wednesday said he might use executive power to reverse protections afforded some immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
On Monday, the Justice Department asked the Supreme Court to review legalities related to winding down DACA, a policy created by President Barack Obama's administration which protects some undocumented immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children from deportation, although the program does not provide a path to US citizenship.
"I think on some of it, I can use executive power. On some, not all," Trump said during a press conference at the White House. "He [Obama] used it on DACA."
Trump said Obama used executive power on DACA while admitting that he was not supposed to.
Trump reaffirmed, as he said in an interview last month, that his administration is seriously looking at using executive power to ban birthright citizenship.
