Nearly 50 International Observers Register for Elections in DPR - Commission

Almost 50 international observers from 14 countries were registered as international monitors for the upcoming elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) that would be held on November 11, Olga Pozdnyakova, the chairwoman of the DPR Central Election Commission, said on Wednesday.

DONETSK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th November, 2018) Almost 50 international observers from 14 countries were registered as international monitors for the upcoming elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) that would be held on November 11, Olga Pozdnyakova, the chairwoman of the DPR Central Election Commission, said on Wednesday.

"The submission of documents from international observers in the snap elections of the head of the DPR and lawmakers to the DPR People's Council finished on Monday at 18:00 p.m. ... In order to participate as international observers, 48 representatives of 14 countries registered," Pozdnyakova said in a statement.

According to Pozdnyakova, representatives from Russia, Italy, Greece, Austria, Belgium, Norway, Germany, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Chile, Turkey, Abkhazia and South Ossetia registered as foreign observers.

Elections of heads and deputies of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics are scheduled for November 11. Kiev announced that it would not recognize the elections.

Former Head of the Donetsk People's Republic Aleksander Zakharchenko was killed by an explosive device hidden in a cafe in Donetsk on August 31. One of the candidates for the upcoming elections, Denis Pushilin, the chairman of the DPR People's Council, was appointed as acting head of the DPR on September 7.
