Khartoum To Discuss With US Sudan's Removal From US List Of Terrorism Sponsors - Source

KHARTOUM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th November, 2018) Sudanese Foreign Minister Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed will start on Monday his visit to the United States, where he will discuss Sudan's removal from the US list of countries funding terrorism, a source in the Sudanese Foreign Ministry told Sputnik on Monday.

According to the source, the minister's visit will aim at starting the second round of talks between the countries, while these talks will center, among other issues, on "Sudan's removal from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism."

Sudan was included into the US State Department's list of state sponsors of terrorism in 1993. The lists also includes Iran, North Korea and Syria, while Cuba, Iraq, Libya and South Yemen, which used to be on the list as well, have been removed.

In 1997, Washington imposed economic, trade and financial restrictions on Sudan, accusing it of state support for terrorism, destabilizing neighboring states and violating human rights. While some of the sanctions have been revoked, a range of others still have effect.
