Sheikh Zayed in November: taking first steps to reach space

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 04th Nov, 2018) The legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan is full of unforgettable actions and achievements.

On 8th November, 1975, 43 years ago, Sheikh Zayed began the UAE’s first steps to join the space sector by creating a satellite communication station in Jebel Ali, Dubai.

The Emirates news Agency, WAM, in cooperation with the National Archives, NA, is writing a series of monthly articles that document Sheikh Zayed’s key achievements from 1966 to 2004, to coincide with the Year of Zayed.

On 10th November, 1981, Sheikh Zayed participated in the 2nd Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, Countries Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and in the following year, on 9th November, 1982, he participated in the next gathering of the summit.

On 2nd November, 1986, he inaugurated the 7th Higher Council of the GCC in Abdu Dhabi, and stressed that the GCC is protecting the entire Arab region.

On 22nd November, 1972, Sheikh Zayed arrived in San’aa on an official visit, and on 26th November, 1973, he led the country’s delegation that participated in the Arab Summit in Algeria. In mid-November 1985, he participated in a committee that aimed to calm tensions between Arab countries, which was held in Morocco.

To mark the "International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People," Sheikh Zayed stressed, on 30th November, 1985, that the UAE will continue supporting the legitimate efforts of the Palestinian people.

During his participation in the Arab Summit in Amman, Jordan, on 7th November, 1987, he urged Arab countries to disregard their conflicts and unite for the sake of their higher national interests.

On 5th November, 1988, Sheikh Zayed called for an end to the indifference displayed during the tragic events witnessed in Lebanon.

On 8th November, 1981, Sheikh Zayed donated funds to construct a power plant and a water desalination station in Bahrain. On 3rd November, 1994, he donated EGP13 million to Egypt to assist people affected by floods. On 27th November, 1994, he ordered the creation of an aerial bridge to carry rescue aid to those affected by floods in Djibouti, and on 19th November, 2002, he ordered for the medical treatment of 394 UAE residents abroad.

On 29th November, 1971, he inaugurated the headquarters of the Ministry of Water and Electricity in Abu Dhabi, a wave-break in the new port area, as well as the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road, as well as a public housing project in Al Zaab.

While on 8th November, 1975, Sheikh Zayed launched the Arab Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade. On 30th November, 2000, he ordered the construction of 43 dams in the northern and eastern regions of the UAE, at a cost of AED250 million. On 6th November, 2002, he called for the construction of a new production line at Al Marfa Factory for Processing and Packing of Vegetable and Dates, worth AED80 million.

On 7th November, 1977, the UAE's Founding Father launched the 4th Regional Conference of Ministers of education and Ministers Responsible for Economic Planning in the Arab States in Abu Dhabi, and on 10th November of the same year he inaugurated the UAE University, UAEU.

On 30th November, 1971, at an invitation by the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on the occasion of his fifth Accession Day, the iconic Egyptian singer, Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi.
