Russian-Cuban Trade Increased 17% In 2017 - Putin

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd November, 2018) Russian-Cuban trade has increased by 17 percent in 2017, and steps toward further increases are being taken, Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel during their meeting in Moscow on Friday.

"I'd note that our bilateral trade has increased by 17 percent in 2017. Of course, this trade amount is still modest in absolute terms, but we know what we should do. This is why I and Mr. Diaz-Canel have tasked the intergovernmental commission, which has held a regular session in Havana this week, to develop specific measures on enhancement of mutual trade flows and of investment cooperation," Putin said.

He specified that Russia and Cuba had a positive experience of energy cooperation.

According to Putin, Russian oil and oil products deliveries to Cuba play an important role in its economy, namely its resources provision, and also guaranteed Cuba's energetic security.

Putin recalled that Russian energy companies were successfully working in Cuba.

Diaz-Canel arrived in Moscow on Thursday evening. This is his first visit to Russia in his current capacity.

On Saturday, he is set to meet with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to discuss implementation of large-scale joint projects.
