Cuban President Invites Russian Parliament's Lower House Speaker to Visit Cuba

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who is currently paying an official visit to Moscow, on Friday invited Speaker of the Russian parliament's lower house Vyacheslav Volodin to visit Cuba and Volodin accepted the invitation, saying that he might visit the Caribbean island in 2019

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd November, 2018) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who is currently paying an official visit to Moscow, on Friday invited Speaker of the Russian parliament's lower house Vyacheslav Volodin to visit Cuba and Volodin accepted the invitation, saying that he might visit the Caribbean island in 2019.

Earlier in the day, the Cuban leader started his first official visit to Russia and met with Russian lawmakers.

"A new [parliamentary] session is underway [in Cuba]. We appeal to you and invite you to visit our country, when your schedule permits you [to arrive in Havana]. It will be an important moment and [it will serve as] a reason for developing closer ties with the next session," Diaz-Canel said.

Volodin, in turn, accepted the invitation, adding that he planned to visit Cuba in 2019.

"I will definitely accept your invitation to visit [Cuba] and will do it next year, as soon as I have time," the State Duma chairman said.

Volodin also stressed that relations between Cuba and Russia were special because the two countries had much deeper relations than just those based on bilateral trade, they had strong ties connecting their people.

Later in the day, Diaz-Canel is expected to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the state and prospects of bilateral strategic partnership.
