Pipe Bomb Suspect Also Threatened Texas US Senate Candidate O'Rourke - Reports

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st November, 2018) A man who allegedly sent pipe bombs to former or current high-ranking Democrat government officials had also sent threatening messages to US Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke, media reported on Wednesday.

Cesar Sayoc of the US state of Florida had sent several threatening Facebook messages to O'Rourke, who is the Democratic candidate facing Republican incumbent Ted Cruz in a key US Senate race in Texas, the Dallas Morning news reported citing O'Rourke campaign spokesman Chris Evans.

On October 25, the FBI began deploying dogs and agents to inspect mail at O'Rourke's campaign office in El Paso, according to the report. Evans said there was no information on whether O'Rourke was a potential target in Sayoc's pipe bomb plot.

The report noted that Sayoc had also threatened Texas State Representative Poncho Nevarez, who is a Democrat.

The 56-year-old suspect has been charged with five Federal crimes, including interstate transportation of an explosive, illegal mailing of explosives and threats against former presidents and other individuals.

Sayoc sent packages containing suspected explosives to prominent Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Cinton, US Congresswomen Deborah Wasserman Schultz and Maxine Walters.
