Inspector General Refers US Interior Secretary Probe to Justice Department - Reports

The inspector general of the US Interior Department has referred one of its investigations into Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to the Department of Justice, US media reported on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st October, 2018) The inspector general of the US Interior Department has referred one of its investigations into Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to the Department of Justice, US media reported on Tuesday.

Two individuals familiar with the matter told The Washington Post that the Interior's inspector general referred one of at least three ongoing probes involving Zinke to the Justice Department for further investigation.

The referral allows prosecutors at the Justice Department to determine whether a criminal probe is necessary, the report said.

The investigations involving Zinke include his role in a land development deal in the US state of Montana and the department's refusal to sign off on a casino deal involving two Native American tribes.

Earlier this month, the Interior's inspector general found Zinke's decision to allow his wife to travel with him was a concern for the department's ethics officials, the report added.
