Russian Presidential Envoy, UN Deputy Special Envoy Discuss Syria's Settlement - Statement

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East Mikhail Bogdanov met Tuesday with UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy to discuss the settlement of the Syrian conflict, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th October, 2018) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Envoy for the middle East Mikhail Bogdanov met Tuesday with UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy to discuss the settlement of the Syrian conflict, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"During the conversation, the current situation in Syria and around it was discussed. At the same time, the parties paid attention to advancing a political settlement based on the decisions of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi. The Russian side emphasized the need to increase assistance to Syria for reconstruction purposes, including ensuring conditions for the return of refugees and internally displaced persons as soon as possible," the statement said.

The meeting was held several days after the four-party Russia-Germany-France-Turkey summit on Syria, which was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul. Participants of the summit called on the parties to the Syrian conflict to launch the work of the Constitutional Committee till the end of the year.

Russia, alongside Iran and Turkey, is a guarantor of the ceasefire regime in Syria. Moscow has also been assisting Damascus both through supporting the struggle against the terrorist groups and by providing humanitarian aid to residents of the crisis-torn country.
