Mobile gaming, in particular, has seen increased interest from developers as a result of the expanding demographically diverse audience in the region. The global gaming market continues to grow and is valued at over US$125 billion.
These figures have prompted the UAE not only to contribute to establishing the necessary infrastructure to ensure a foothold in the gaming industry but also to assist local talents and expand their innovative capabilities.
One of these local talents is Fakhra Al Mansouri, a leading female Emirati gaming developer, and Founder of Hybrid Games, a creative, independent game studio in the nation’s capital, Abu Dhabi.
"I have created various electronic games and continue to expand on our games repertoire to create exciting gaming experiences," she said.
"My gaming development philosophy is centred around promoting our culture, values and history via player-centric gaming experiences," Al Mansouri explained, adding that each of the games at Hybrid Games focuses on UAE heritage and animal rights, showcasing the country’s gaming industry strength and capability both regionally and internationally.
"I have received invitations to participate in various international festivals, and conferences specialised in electronic gaming, including in Paris, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Malaysia," she continued.
"As I pursued entering the gaming industry, I joined a specialist academy in Abu Dhabi, so there was no need for me to leave the country to pursue my studies," said Al Mansouri, adding that this then led to my gaining further experience in an international organisation.
"These are among the various incentives the UAE has provided enhancing local skill sets and employability with global private sector organisations," the Hybrid Games founder elaborated.
"You’ll find many start-ups operating in the gaming sector in the UAE, as well as international companies," she added.
Al Mansouri went on to say that the UAE supports the development of the gaming industry and provides state-of-the-art mechanisms and international best practices to ensure that the games produced are suitable for all age groups. "In this context, the UAE also strives to provide world-class gaming platforms, competitions and exhibitions, to advance the industry in the region," she concluded.
