VLADIVOSTOK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th October, 2018) The South Korean province of Gangwon offers to include its territory, as well as the North Korean port city of Rason in the Russian-Chinese joint international economic zone project, the province's vice governor for economic affairs, Chung Man-ho, said Tuesday.

This proposal was made at a conference of governors of Northeast Asia, which is being held in Vladivostok within the framework of the 23rd meeting on international exchange and cooperation between regional administrations of Northeast Asia.

"I propose to organize free trade zones between key regions of Northeast Asia. The ongoing discussions of the project of the joint international economic zone between China's Hunchun and Russia's Zarubino will have a positive effect on the regional development of the Northeast Asia. I suppose to expand the zone to North Korea's Rason and South Korea's Gangwon coast, and to organize a free trade zone in these territories," the official said.

The results of the economic development at the regional level may become a growth driver for the economy of participating states, he added.

In mid-September, a commercial freight route connecting the Chinese city of Hunchun in the landlocked province of Jilin, the coastal urban locality of Zarubino in Russia's Primorsky Territory and the port city of Ningbo in eastern China was launched. The route will be part of the international transport corridor Primorye-2, which is expected to run through the territory of the Free Port of Vladivostok.
