At least five Indian Border Security Force (BSF) officers were injured on Monday in an attack by local militants on the outskirts of the city of Srinagar in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th October, 2018) At least five Indian Border Security Force (BSF) officers were injured on Monday in an attack by local militants on the outskirts of the city of Srinagar in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, local media reported.

Militants opened fire at a patrol vehicle, wounding the border guards, according to The Times of India.

The injured personnel were transferred to a hospital, while the security forces have cordoned off the area in an attempt to capture the attackers, the publication said.

The Jammu and Kashmir region has been disputed between India and Pakistan since the end of the British rule in 1947. Following several armed conflicts, the two countries agreed to a ceasefire in 2003. Since then, both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce, with the continued instability in the region leading to the emergence of various extremist groups.

New Delhi has repeatedly accused Pakistan of supporting the insurgents demanding the region's secession from India.
