Michael D. Higgins Re-Elected As Irish President For 7-Year Term

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th October, 2018) Incumbent Irish President Michael D. Higgins, aged 77, was re-elected for a second, seven-year term on Sunday after receiving 56 percent of the votes, according to the results.

Independent candidate Peter Casey came second with over 23 percent, while businessman Sean Gallagher followed with almost 6.5 percent.

The inauguration of Higgins, who ran as an independent candidate, will be held in Dublin Castle on November 11.

The re-elected president, beside his extensive political career, is also known as an academic, writer and poet.
