Next Launch From Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome Scheduled for December 26 - Roscosmos

The launch of two satellites of the Kanopus series from the Russian Far East's Vostochny cosmodrome is scheduled for December 26, Russia's Roscosmos state corporation said in a press release on Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th October, 2018) The launch of two satellites of the Kanopus series from the Russian Far East's Vostochny cosmodrome is scheduled for December 26, Russia's Roscosmos state corporation said in a press release on Friday.

In September, a source in the rocket and space industry told Sputnik that the launch, which will become the second launch from the Vostochny cosmodrome this year, was planned for December 26. The source later added that the launch might take place a day earlier.

"The preparatory works for the launch of spacecraft Kanopus-V number 5 and number 6, which is scheduled for December 26, 2018, are being carried out," Roscosmos said.

There have been a total of three launches from Russia's new Vostochny cosmodrome since 2016.

Kanopus-V satellites are designed to monitor disasters, major fallouts of hazardous substances, agricultural activities, and the use of mineral resources. The satellites can provide Roscosmos, the Russian Ministry for Emergencies, the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry as well as the Russian academy of Sciences with panchromatic and polyzonal images of the Earth's surface.
