North Korea, South Korea Hold General-Level Talks on Friday - Reports

North Korea and the South held general-level military talks in the border village of Panmunjom on Friday as part of a military agreement reached in September, local media reported.

TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th October, 2018) North Korea and the South held general-level military talks in the border village of Panmunjom on Friday as part of a military agreement reached in September, local media reported.

On September 19, the sides agreed to establish buffer zones in frontline areas to reduce military tensions and prevent accidental clashes.

Friday's meeting was held at Tongilgak, a North Korean building in the truce village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone (DMZ). South Korea's delegation was led by Maj. Gen. Kim Do-gyun, while North Korea was represented by Lt. Gen. An Ik San, according to the Yonhap news agency.

"I feel happy to see with my eyes that steps for the disarmament of the Joint Security Area (JSA) have practically proceeded as I saw the marked change compared with the DMZ I saw the last time I came here," Kim was quoted as saying by the agency.

Relations between Seoul and Pyongyang began to improve after a historic summit between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in April after more than a year of rising fears of war over North Korea's nuclear weapons program. Moon and Kim also met in May and September.
