UPDATE - Florida Bomb Squad Searches Mail Facility Tied To Suspicious Packages - Police

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th October, 2018) A Miami-Dade county police bomb squad and the FBI are investigating a US postal facility in Florida as part of the investigation into the wave of suspicious packages sent to prominent Democrats and CNN, the police said in a statement.

"Our Bomb Squad & K-9 Unit are currently providing assistance to our Federal partners at the @USPS Opa-Locka mail facility as part of the ongoing investigation into suspicious packages located in other jurisdictions," the Miami-Dade police department said in a tweet on Thursday.

At least ten potentially harmful devices and pipe bombs have been mailed to prominent democratic politicians including former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton this week and federal agencies are hunting for the perpetrators. The CNN news agency also was targeted.

Several of the suspicious packages were processed at the US Postal Office facility in the Florida city of Opa-locka, CNN reported on Thursday citing investigators. The US Postal Service will serve a key role in the investigation, the media outlet reported.

The New York Police Department announced in a Twitter post on Thursday at the same time that a report of a suspicious package at the Time Warner Building was investigated but was found to be safe.

None of the devices found have exploded or resulted in any physical damage or injuries.
