Polish Ruling PiS Party Wins Elections With 254 Seats In Local Legislatures - Authorities

WARSAW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th October, 2018) The Polish National Election Commission officially confirms the victory of the ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) party in local legislative elections with 254 mandates in voivodeships' legislatures, the commission's head, Wojciech Hermelinski, said on Thursday.

The vote was held on Sunday with exit polls suggesting that the PiS would win the election with 32.3 percent of the ballots.

PiS' main rivals, the opposition Civic Platform and Nowoczesna parties, received 194 mandates, while the Polish People's Party gained 70 seats in local legislatures, according to the Election Commission.

On Sunday, mayor elections were also held in Poland.

According to the Election Commission, almost 50 percent of mayors have been elected in the first round of the vote, while the second round will be held on November 4 for those who had failed to surpass the 50-percent threshold.

In Warsaw, particularly, Rafal Trzaskowski, the candidate of the Civic Platform and Nowoczesna parties, gained 56.67 percent of the ballots, while his main opponent, Patryk Jaki representing the PiS, received 28.53 percent.
