US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres met in Washington, DC to discuss the situations in Syria and North Korea, Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said on Wednesday.
WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th October, 2018) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres met in Washington, DC to discuss the situations in Syria and North Korea, Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said on Wednesday.
"They discussed global efforts to achieve the denuclearization of North Korea, the importance of making irreversible progress towards a political resolution in Syria by convening the constitutional committee in November," Nauert said about their meeting on Tuesday.
Nauert said that the two officials also discussed the possibility for a cessation of hostilities in Yemen.
During the meeting, Pompeo condemned the behavior the Cuban and Bolivian missions to the United Nations staff exhibited during a US-hosted event on Cuban political prisoners on October 16, Nauert added.
On that day, the United States organized an event named "Jailed for What? The plight of Cuba's political prisoners" in the United Nations' Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) chamber.
Bolivian and Cuban diplomats tried to derail the event by chanting slogans, according to media reports.
