Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed condolences to the family of the murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi during a telephone conversation, a source in Erdogan's administration told Sputnik on Tuesday.

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd October, 2018) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed condolences to the family of the murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi during a telephone conversation, a source in Erdogan's administration told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"Today, the president telephoned members of Khashoggi's family, in particular, the son of the journalist, Abdullah. Erdogan said that he is deeply saddened by the murder of the journalist, and Turkey will do everything necessary to solve it [the case]. The president wished the relatives of the deceased patience and determination," the source said.

Khashoggi, known for his criticism of Saudi policies, has recently been working as a columnist for The Washington Post. The journalist was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Following more than two weeks of denials, Saudi Arabia admitted on Friday via state television that the journalist had been killed in a fight inside the consulate. Riyadh has arrested 18 people over their involvement in the incident, while at least five Saudi officials have been dismissed as the Khashoggi case was gaining momentum.
