The European Parliament has received a request from the fiancee of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi over his alleged murder and is urging for an independent probe that would bring punishment to those who carried out and ordered the killing, the parliament's president Antonio Tajani said Tuesday.
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd October, 2018) The European Parliament has received a request from the fiancee of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi over his alleged murder and is urging for an independent probe that would bring punishment to those who carried out and ordered the killing, the parliament's president Antonio Tajani said Tuesday.
"The European Parliament has received an appeal from Jamal Khashoggi's fiancee. We call for an independent and rigorous investigation to bring to justice not only the perpetrators of the murder but also those who ordered it," Tajani said on Twitter.
The journalist was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.
Saudi Arabia initially denied reports that Khashoggi had been murdered in the consulate, but on Friday it admitted that the journalist had been killed in a fight inside the building.
Riyadh has arrested 18 people over their involvement in the incident, while at least five Saudi officials have been dismissed amid the growing controversy.
