ATHENS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st October, 2018) A group of masked men on Sunday attacked the Canadian Embassy in Athens in Greece, smashing windows and smearing paint over the facade, local media reported.
The attack by a dozen of sledgehammer-wielding hooligans took place in the northern suburb of the Greek capital at around 6 a.m. local time, the Kathimerini newspaper reported.
The Embassy's security guard alerted the police, the publication said. A man who was close to the scene at the time of the attack was questioned and then released.
The Greek Foreign Ministry condemned the attack and vowed to take "all necessary action" to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
"Such unlawful actions will not affect our country's excellent relations with Canada or the bonds of long-time friendship between our peoples," it added in a statement.
No one has claimed responsibility, but the assault mirrored attacks by a Greek anarchist group called Rubicon. Last month, Rubicon said they had vandalized Iran's Embassy in Athens in protest against its treatment of the Kurds.
