Washington, which is seeking to promote its LNG in the European Union, has repeatedly expressed its opposition to Russian gas deliveries, particularly to the Nord Stream 2 project, claiming that it is the means of political control used by Russia to exert pressure on the European Union.
"Fight against Russia's gas in Europe is the example of dishonest economic competition, which is disguised as some kind of political concern about European partners ... The problem is that the issue has been largely politicized lately," the prime minister said after talks with his Belgian counterpart Charles Michel.
The United States is offering its LNG, which is 40 percent more expensive than Russian pipe gas simply due to logistics, under the pretext of caring about Europe and protecting it from alleged energy dependence on Russia, Medvedev said.
The United States has already made a number of attempts to impede the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project and even incorporated a provision for counteracting the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in its Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act.
