Senate body holds meeting, discusses matters relating to backward areas of Chitral

A meeting of Senate Functional Committee on Problems of Less Developed Areas on Friday reviewed matter and issues relating to the backward areas of Chitral.

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Oct, 2018 ) :A meeting of Senate Functional Committee on Problems of Less Developed Areas on Friday reviewed matter and issues relating to the backward areas of Chitral.

The meeting chaired by Senator Usman Kakar, was held at office of Deputy Commissioner Chitral which was also attended by members of the committee including Sardar Azam Khan Musakhel, Momin Khan besides Deputy Commissioner Chitral Khursheed Alam, District Nazim Maghferat Shah, MPAs Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman and representatives of civil society.

The meeting reviewed and discussed the matters relating to backward areas of Chitral in detail.

Addressing the meeting, Senator Usman Kakar said that it was most unfortunate that areas endowed by the nature with countless mineral resources were still backward. He said people living in these areas were deprived of basic amenities of life including availability of healthy food and clean drinking water.

He said that problems of backward areas have been ignored for the last 71 years, adding the situation demands that people of these areas should be made aware to launch struggle for their rights. He suggested that citizenry of backward areas should also play their role for changing the logic in NFC Award for the distribution of resources proportion to the population ratio.

Usman Kakar also expressed concerns over the closure of Lawari Tunnel for 12 hours despite its completion, adding the miseries of commuters have been increased by suspension of traffic at the tunnel. He said that steps would be taken to resolve issues falling in the ambit of Federal government and to include them in next budgetary proposal.

He said matters relating to provincial government would be discussed with Chief Secretary in a special meeting.
