Putin Says Agreed to Set Up Commission on Economic Cooperation With Uzbek President

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Friday after talks with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev that the two parties had agreed to establish a joint commission to boost economic cooperation.

TASHKENT (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th October, 2018) Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Friday after talks with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev that the two parties had agreed to establish a joint commission to boost economic cooperation.

"In order to give an additional impetus to the Russian-Uzbek cooperation, primarily in the economic sector, we have decided to create a joint commission that would be chaired by the prime ministers. The commission will deal with strategic interaction in the economy, investment and technology," Putin said.

The president also highly commended the discussion with his Uzbek counterpart.

"The state visit to Uzbekistan is taking place in a truly friendly and businesslike atmosphere that has always characterized the Russian-Uzbek contacts at all levels. We have held constructive and extremely productive negotiations with the president of Uzbekistan. We have examined in detail a very wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on pressing regional and international problems," Putin said.

Putin has arrived in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent earlier in the day. Apart from the top level talks, the president's agenda also includes a plenary session of the Russian-Uzbek agricultural forum and the launching ceremony of the construction of Uzbekistan's first nuclear power plant (NPP).
