Letter Claims Alleged Trump Role in Changing Plan for New FBI Headquarters - Congressmen

Five members of Congress have called on the head of the General Services Administration (GSA) to release documents showing President Donald Trump's role in the decision not to move the FBI to a new headquarters, US Congressman Mike Quigley said in a press release on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th October, 2018) Five members of Congress have called on the head of the General Services Administration (GSA) to release documents showing President Donald Trump's role in the decision not to move the FBI to a new headquarters, US Congressman Mike Quigley said in a press release on Thursday.

"New documents... show that a more expensive plan to... construct a new facility on the same site - and thereby prevent commercial developers from competing with the Trump Hotel directly across the street - was approved during a meeting with President Trump at the Oval Office on January 24, 2018," the release said.

The new plan replaces a long-term one to move FBI headquarters from its current site on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC to a suburban location, the letter, which was signed by Quigley and Congressmen Elijah Cummings, Peter DeFazio, Gerald Connolly and Dina Titus, stated.

The letter cited emails from officials describe this decision as "direction from the White House," "what POTUS directed everyone to do," and "the project the president wants," the press release said.

Trump should have avoided all interactions or communications relating to the FBI headquarters project to prevent both real and perceived conflicts of interest, the lawmakers said in the letter.
