SEOUL, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Oct, 2018 ) :South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha will meet with the chief of the United Nations refugee agency in Seoul next week, her ministry said Thursday, as Seoul's policy on global refugees has drawn keen attention since the arrival of hundreds of Yemeni people on its soil in May.

Kang is scheduled to sit down with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi on Tuesday. It will be his second trip here since taking office in 2016.

The two officials will exchange views on pending major issues related to refugees worldwide and ways to strengthen cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

On Wednesday, the government granted temporary stay permits to hundreds of Yemeni asylum seekers after months of screening.

They are allowed to remain in South Korea for a year. A total of 481 people from the war-torn nation applied for asylum after arriving on Jeju Island earlier this year. Twenty-three of them were granted humanitarian stay permits last month and 339 others were given the status this week.
