Russian Seismologists Register Magnitude 5.2 Earthquake Off Kamchatka Peninsula

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY (Russia) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 18th October, 2018) KAMCHATSKY (Russia), October 18 (Sputnik) - A 5.2-magnitude earthquake has been registered off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East on Thursday, the Geophysical Survey of the Russian academy of Sciences (GS RAS) told Sputnik.

"A seismic event took place in the early hours of Thursday local time. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the waters of the Pacific Ocean at the depth of 44 kilometers [27 miles], 240 kilometers to the south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky," the GS RAS spokesperson said.

According to the data of the regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, the tremors were not felt in nearby settlements.
