Trump Nominates Veteran Diplomat To Serve As New US Ambassador To Qatar - White House

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th October, 2018) President Donald Trump nominated an experienced diplomat and former Mideast security adviser to be the next US Ambassador to Qatar, the White House said in a press release.

"Trump today announced his intent to nominate the following individuals to key positions in his Administration... Mary Catherine Phee of Illinois, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the State of Qatar," the release said on Wednesday.

Phee is currently serving as the State Department's Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, the release added. She was also once the White House National Security Council director for Iraq and ambassador to the South Sudan.

The nominee also served in Iraq as the Senior Civilian Representative of the Coalition Provisional Authority to Maysan Province, the statement added. Phee has received the Pentagon's Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the Order of the British Empire and speaks Arabic, according to the White House.
