Turkey To Bring All Involved In Khashoggi's Disappearance To Court - Presidential Adviser

ANTAKYA (Turkey) (Pakistan Point news / Sputnik - 17th October, 2018) Turkey will bring all those involved in the disappearance of a Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi to justice, including diplomats, Yasin Aktay, a Turkish presidential adviser, told Sputnik on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Saudi Consul General in Istanbul Mohammad Otaibi left Turkey for Riyadh.

"Turkey will demand to detain all those involved in the crime [around the disappearance of Khashoggi], will take them to court and will require a response from them. If Saudi diplomats leave Turkey, we will demand to hand them over to us," Aktay said.

Turkey has the right to detain diplomats if they are stripped of immunity, according to Aktay.

"This crime is an attack on Turkish sovereignty, so we will do everything necessary. This issue is no longer a question of relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but it was a crime committed on Turkish territory and against Turkey," he stressed.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, went missing on October 2. He was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul where he went to receive papers he needed to remarry.

Turkey has expressed concerns that Khashoggi could have been murdered inside the building, while the Saudi government has denied involvement in the case, claiming that the journalist disappeared after he left the consulate.
