WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh to discuss the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and both agreed on the need for a thorough investigation that provides answers in the case, the State Department said in a press release on Tuesday.

"The Secretary welcomed Saudi Arabia's support of the Turkish authorities' investigation," the release said. "The Secretary and the Crown Prince agreed on the importance of a thorough, transparent, and timely investigation that provides answers."

Pompeo also underscored the desire of US President Donald Trump to determine what happened to Khashoggi, the release said.

Pompeo also met with King Salman and Foreign Minister al-Jubeir to discuss the Khashoggi case while in Riyadh.

Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post, disappeared after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2. According to the journalist's fiancee, he was invited to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul but never left the diplomatic mission's building.

Turkish authorities reportedly have evidence that suggests that Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi consulate, but Riyadh fiercely denies the allegations.
