Paris, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Oct, 2018 ) :French police raided the headquarters of the far-left party led by firebrand politician Jean-Luc Melenchon on Tuesday after prosecutors opened an inquiry into suspected campaign financing violations and "fake jobs" for EU parliament assistants.
Melenchon said investigators seized computers and cellphones among other items at the party's Paris headquarters, as well as at his home and those of other officials and former assistants in his France Insoumise (France Unbowed) movement.
During an impromptu rally outside the party office, Melenchon denounced an attempt to "intimidate" him, saying his accounts had already been validated by the public oversight body.
"We are going to publish all the receipts for my campaign," he told reporters, before supporters began chanting "Resist, resist!"The raids were carried out by France's anti-fraud office, a source close to the inquiries told AFP.
