UAE is key point in providing food supplies to region: Food Security Centre

Khalifa Ahmed Al Ali, Managing Director of the Food Security Centre, emphasised that the UAE has become a key point in providing food supplies to the region, while revealing that the country is 33rd in world food security rankings.

ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 16th Oct, 2018) Khalifa Ahmed Al Ali, Managing Director of the Food Security Centre, emphasised that the UAE has become a key point in providing food supplies to the region, while revealing that the country is 33rd in world food security rankings.

In his statement to the Emirates news Agency, WAM, Al Ali said that World Food Day - which is marked on 16th October, each year - is an opportunity to assist national and international policies aimed at eliminating problems related to the growing number of starving people globally, which is increasing annually, and has reached nearly 820 million in 2017.

He added that the paradigm shift achieved in food security by the UAE is not limited to local level. Its impact, he said, has reached abroad as the UAE has supported and implemented many agricultural, livestock, and fishery development projects globally.

Al Ali highlighted the role of Emirati private sector in strengthening food security, pointing to the acquisition by UAE companies of a large proportion of the largest agricultural projects abroad.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director said that the UAE will host Agriscape, the International Exhibition on Agricultural Investments Abroad, from 29th to 30th October, 2018. The exhibition aims to promote food security, establish suitable partnerships, and attract investments in the country.

He also pointed out that the country's livestock exceeded 4.5 million, which in itself provides an important aspect of food security related to meat, dairy products and others. He also stated that there are nearly 25,000 farms in Abu Dhabi in addition to dozens of others that apply advanced agriculture, which strengthen the number of local products and achieve significant self-sufficiency.
