Turkey Wants Results of Probe Into Khashoggi Vanishing as Soon as Possible - Erdogan

Ankara wants to receive convincing results of the probe into the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was last seen entering the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul, as soon as possible, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) Ankara wants to receive convincing results of the probe into the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was last seen entering the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul, as soon as possible, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.

The Turkish police officers have been conducting searches in the consulate for over nine hours, and they will continue investigation later on Tuesday. They are also set to inspect the residency of the Saudi consul general.

"As a result of the intense negotiations that we have held, the process of inspection of the [Saudi] consulate [in Istanbul] has started. Work was carried out until this morning, and it will be continued. I want us to receive convincing results as soon as possible. As there are many things there, toxic materials and of other kind, and investigation into all this in underway," Erdogan told reporters in Ankara.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, went missing on October 2. He was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul where he went to receive papers he needed to remarry. The Saudi government has refuted allegations that Khashoggi was murdered inside the consulate.

Turkey is willing to gain insight into the matter, with Erdogan saying on October 11 that his country could not "be silent" about the incident that occurred on its territory.
