"Just making sure everyone is safe, they are fed. You know many of these people, they have no home," Trump told reporters upon arriving in Florida.
Governor Rick Scott is accompanying Trump and First Lady Melania during their trip to Florida.
In a brief encounter with reporters, Trump praised Scott for the efforts to provide disaster relief and said the governor has done "an incredible job."
Hurricane Michael made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida, on Wednesday with winds of 155 miles per hour (250 kilometers per hour). The death toll from the storm in Florida stands at 18, according to reports.
Later in the day, Trump is set to visit the US state of Georgia, which was also hit by Hurricane Michael.
