Info-Tech share in non-oil GDP surges to AED40.7 bn

The share of Information and Communication Technology in non-oil GDP at current prices surged to 40.7 billion during 2017, a growth of 3.9 percent over the previous year, according to figures released recently by the Statistics Centre- Abu Dhabi (SCAD), which indicated as well that the total contribution of the sector to the non-oil GDP amounted to 4.1 percent by the end of 2017 from 4.00 percent by the end of 2016.

The significant growth reflects the successful economic diversification efforts made by various state departments where special focus has been laid over the past few years on the info-tech sector to ensure adoption of best international practices and development of robust legislation, as a result of which the country has secured advanced rankings across global competitiveness indices.

According to SCAD statistics, fixed broadband subscribers per 100 inhabitants amounted to12, and the Fixed telephone subscribers per 100 inhabitants totaled 15 in 2017
