Senior Diplomat Garber To Head US Delegation To Arctic Summit - State Department

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th October, 2018) The United States has designated Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Judith Garber to lead the US delegation at the Arctic Environment Ministers Meeting (AEMM) in Finland this week, the Department of State said in a press release.

"Judith Garber, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, will travel to Rovaniemi, Finland, October 11-12, 2018, to serve as the US government's Head of Delegation to the Arctic Environment Ministers Meeting (AEMM)," the release said on Wednesday.

The State Department explained that the delegation's goal is to defend US security and interests in the Arctic as well as promote the framework for rules-based actions in the region.

Finland will welcome the environment ministers of the eight Arctic states, six indigenous permanent participant organizations, Arctic Council's six working groups as well as Arctic Council observers.

The summit will be led by Finnish Minister of the Environment, Energy and Housing Kimmo Tiilikainen.
