Canada, Mexico Sign Security Cooperation Pact At Conference In Cancun - Defense Minister

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th October, 2018) Canadian and Mexican officials on the sidelines of a conference in Cancun signed a bilateral agreement to advance joint security objectives, Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan said in a press release.

"Canada welcomes the signing of this Defense Cooperation Arrangement with our friend and hemispheric partner, Mexico, on the margins of a successful Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas," Sajjan said on Tuesday. "We look forward to continuing to work with Mexico to advance our shared defense priorities."

The agreement, the release added, will provide a mechanism for Canada and Mexico to collaborate in areas such as defense training, capacity building, disaster relief and peace support operations.

The Canadian defense chief signed the agreement with Mexican Defense Secretary Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda and Mexican Navy Secretary Vidal Francisco Sob�eron Sanz, the release said.

The Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas (CDMA) is being held in Cancun, Mexico this year from October 7-10. The CDMA is a biennial conference that serves as a venue for leaders in the Western Hemisphere to discuss regional defense issues, according to the US Defense Department.
