Youth Olympic Games: Malaysian Hockey Team Beat Mexico For Second Straight Win

The national junior squad continued their winning streak at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games after defeating Mexico 4-2 in their second group A match of the men's hockey five-a-side event in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Monday (Tuesday in Malaysia).

KUALA LUMPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Oct, 2018 ) :The national junior squad continued their winning streak at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games after defeating Mexico 4-2 in their second group A match of the men's hockey five-a-side event in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Monday (Tuesday in Malaysia).

Malaysia which scored a massive 14-0 win over Vanuatu in the opening match on Sunday, took the lead via Mohd Akhimullah Anuar Esook's field goal in the fourth minute before Arif Syafie Ishak doubled the advantage, also from a field goal, four minutes later in the match held at the Youth Olympic Park, according to the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) Facebook page.

Mexico, however, managed to reduce the deficit through Luis Villegas's field goal in the 14th minute, only to see Malaysia adding two more field goals via Arif Syafie and Syarman Mat Tee in the 19th minute, respectively.

Mexico added the second goal, a minute later through Jorge Estrada who converted a field goal but it was too late to stop Wallace Tan's boys to register their second straight win in the Games.

Other group A matches saw Argentina whitewashed Vanuatu 18-0 while Zambia beat Poland 4-3.

Malaysia will meet Zambia in their third preliminary match on Tuesday (Wednesday in Malaysia).

Reigning champions, Australia lead the Group B challenge alongside India, Canada, Austria, Kenya and Bangladesh.

For the record, Malaysia did not qualify in the previous two editions � 2010 in Singapore and 2014 in China.
