Interpol President Meng Hongwei Resigns From Post - Statement

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th October, 2018) Interpol President Meng Hongwei resigned from his post, and Senior Vice President Kim Jong Yang will become the acting president of the organization, the Interpol General Secretariat said Sunday in a statement.

"Today, Sunday 7 October, the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France received the resignation of Mr Meng Hongwei as President of INTERPOL with immediate effect. Under the terms of INTERPOL's Constitution and internal regulations, the Senior Vice-President serving on INTERPOL's Executive Committee, Mr Kim Jong Yang of South Korea, becomes the Acting President," the statement published on Twitter reads.

The organization added that a new president would be elected for the remaining two years of the current mandate in late November.

"INTERPOL's 87th General Assembly Session (to be held in Dubai, UAE, 18-21 November 2018) will elect a new President for the remaining two years of the current mandate (until 2020)," the statement says.
