New Russian GLONASS-M Satellite to Be Launched on November 3 - Source

A new satellite of Russia's GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) will be launched into orbit on November 3, a source in the aerospace industry told Sputnik on Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th October, 2018) A new satellite of Russia's GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) will be launched into orbit on November 3, a source in the aerospace industry told Sputnik on Friday.

In late September, Information Satellite Systems - Reshetnev Company producer said that a GLONASS-M satellite would be launched in late fall. It will be a spare satellite to place one that has been operating beyond its guaranteed life span. This will mark the second update to GLONASS in 2018.

"The launch is pre-scheduled for November 3," the source said.

GLONAS is operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces. The system allows real-time positioning and speed data for surface, sea and airborne objects around the world. In total, there are 26 GLONASS satellites on orbit, including one satellite undergoing tests and another being serviced. On June 17, a new GLONASS-M satellite was launched to replace GLONASS satellite number 734.
