Equatorial Guinea Minister Encourages Russia, Qatar Help Africa Build More LNG Terminals

Equatorial Guinea's Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons Gabriel Obiang Lima urged Russia on Wednesday to help develop infrastructure for importing and redistributing liquefied natural gas (LNG) across Africa, while Qatar is already in discussion to build more regasification terminals.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd October, 2018) Equatorial Guinea's Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons Gabriel Obiang Lima urged Russia on Wednesday to help develop infrastructure for importing and redistributing liquefied natural gas (LNG) across Africa, while Qatar is already in discussion to build more regasification terminals.

"We need LNG, and clearly LNG is the best resource - it is environment-friendly, cheaper than liquid gas. The biggest problem that we have is the infrastructure to receive, store and redistribute LNG. If these smaller-scale terminals are built around Africa, it can clearly make Africa the bigger market than the Europeans, because we always pay more. We will encourage of course Russia and we have been discussing with our friends from Qatar to help develop all these terminals in Africa," the minister said at the Russian Energy Week international forum in Moscow.
