Zulfi Bukhari refuses to take salaries, to donate them in dams fund

Zulfi Bukhari has announced to donate all of his salaries in the dams fund dedicated to the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 3rd October, 2018) Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis has refused to take salary from the national exchequer.

According to media reports, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s close friend Zulfi Bukhari has announced to donate all of his salaries in the dams fund dedicated to the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.

Zulfi Bukhari has informed the Cabinet Division regarding his decision while his director has also written a letter to the Cabinet Division for necessary formalities.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had on September 18 appointed his close friend Zulfi Bukhari as his special assistant on Overseas Pakistanis.

The appointment was challenged in the Supreme Court by petitioner Adil Chatha.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Cabinet Division were made a party in the petition.

The petitioner had contended that a person having dual nationality cannot be an MNA and Zulfi Bukhari is made the special assistant to prime minister.

Zulfi Bukhari’s appointment is illegal, the petition had stated.

The petitioner had requested to restrict Zulfi Bukhari from working as the PM's special assistant.

However, the Supreme Court had rejected a petition filed against the appointment of Zulfi Bukhari as aspecial assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Overseas Pakistanis.

The SC registrar had objected that the petitioners did not approach the proper forum and the prime minister cannot be made a party under Article 248 of the Constitution.

Bukhari, a London-based businessman, is facing an inquiry by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for holding offshore companies. The accountability bureau is investigating the use of the offshore companies to buy dozens of expensive commercial properties in London.

Bukhari’s name was also added to the Exit Control List (ECL) in August as part of the probe.
