White House Says Media Report Alleging Trump Involved In Tax Fraud 'Misleading'

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd October, 2018) A media report alleging President Donald Trump and his family for decades committed tax fraud is misleading, the White House said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, the New York Times citing decades of financial documents said Trump and his father Fred were involved in tax fraud schemes during the 1990s that boosted the family's fortune.

"Fred Trump has been gone for nearly twenty years and it's sad to witness this misleading attack against the Trump family by the failing New York Times," the White House said on Tuesday. "Many decades ago the IRS [Internal Revenue Service] reviewed and signed off on these transactions."

According to the report, Trump has received roughly $413 million from his father Fred Trump's real estate empire. The report alleged that Trump's father moved the wealth to his children without paying the appropriate taxes.

Trump attorney Charles Harder told the newspaper that the tax fraud claims are false and highly defamatory. However, the Taxation Department of the US state of New York is investigating the claims, according to CNBC.
