NAB joins hands with HEC to create awareness against corruption: Bawany

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) regarding an awareness campaign against corruption for youths at all levels, said NAB Director General Mohammad Altaf Bawany, here on Tuesday.

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Oct, 2018 ) :The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Higher education Commission (HEC) regarding an awareness campaign against corruption for youths at all levels, said NAB Director General Mohammad Altaf Bawany, here on Tuesday.

Speaking as a chief guest at a seminar on "Corruption and Accountability" organised by IBA Karachi in collaboration with NAB Karachi at IBA's main campus, here, he said corruption is not only a curse for economic development but this menace has also affected moral values.

The event was attended by dignitaries from IBA Karachi Dr. Farrukh Iqbal, Executive Director, Dr. Huma Baqai, Associate Dean FBA, Shehreena Amin, Manager External Linkeages, faculty and students.

Bawany highlighted that NAB's anti-corruption campaign is carried widely for awareness and prevention of corruption besides enforcement across the board.

He said the NAB hopes that joint efforts of all stakeholders can collaborate to check corruption and corrupt practices before happening with the help of all stakeholders, civil society, media and people at large.

The NAB director general also spoke about the operational methodology of the anti-corruption watchdog, its achievements and current workload, process of plea bargain, transparent recruitment process and internal accountability mechanism.

Bawany said the NAB is committed to initiate corruption cases on unequivocal lines, without any political bias. He said the NAB has been contributing effectively towards the recovery of government assets back to the Federal as well as provincial governments, particularly precious lands that have been subject of usurpation by forgery and other illegal means by government officials in connivance with private persons.

He stressed the need for students to educate themselves about the threats corruption poses to the economy and society and also equip themselves with the tool needed to combat this menace.
