US Navy Carrier Has 'Unsafe' Encounter With Chinese Ship in South China Sea - Reports

A US Navy Cruiser had what is being described as an "unsafe encounter" with a Chinese ship in the South China Sea, US media reported on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd October, 2018) A US Navy Cruiser had what is being described as an "unsafe encounter" with a Chinese ship in the South China Sea, US media reported on Monday.

A Chinese military ship came within 45 feet of the USS Decatur near the Spratly Islands on Sunday, a US defense official told CBS news.

The report said at the time of the incident, the US Navy Cruiser was 12 nautical miles away from two reefs in the Spratly Islands, which China considers sovereign territory, despite an international tribunal ruling that these claims have no legal basis.

The South China Sea is a source of tensions between several states in the region, including China, Taiwan, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia.
