US Sentences 2 Ex-Oil Executives For Bribing Foreign Government Officials - Justice Dept.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th September, 2018) Two former executives employed by Dutch and US oil services companies were sentenced for bribing foreign government officials in exchange for lucrative contracts, the Justice Department said in a press release.

"Anthony 'Tony' Mace, 66, of the United Kingdom, the former CEO of SBM Offshore, N.V. (SBM), a Dutch oil services company... was sentenced to serve 36 months in prison and a fine of $150,000," the release said on Friday. "Robert Zubiate, 66, of Agoura Hills, California, a former sales and marketing executive at SBM USA, was sentenced to serve 30 months in prison and a fine of $50,000."

The two executives, the release added, played key roles in an international bribery scheme that involved paying millions to foreign government officials at state-run oil companies including Brazil's Petrobras and state-controlled entities in Angola and Equatorial Guinea.

In November 2017, SBM entered into a $238 million settlement with the US government over its role in the conspiracy.
